An extremely rare fused stash of mainly bronze coins from a shipwreck found on a Chinese ceramics trade route between China and Thailand dated to the 16th Century.
The coins are of mixed currency and as far as Silpakorn University can tell, are a mixture of Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai. One Thai coin has been identified as being 16th Century please see photo.
The coins were the profits of a ceramics trader and were stored in a sea chest. When the ship was sunk, the chest was buried with it. It was salvaged 50 years ago and has been in a private collection since then.
The coins have fused into a perfect rectangular shape at the bottom of the chest and we have mounted the fused coins on a sturdy metal stand as a magnificent piece of sculptural art.
The artifact is very sound as the coins have fused together extremely well.
This is one of the rarest items we have ever put on sale. It is a truly valuable one-off item of considerable historical importance and investment potential with an impressive authenticated history and highly decorative value.
